The 2007-2008 school year is almost over,
and we've had a lot of fun this year. We participated jointly
with SWE and ASME in Trick-or-Cans, which collects canned
food for the food shelters in the area, carved pumpkins for
the elderly, but we've still got lots of events in the planning,
both for this year and next! Stay tuned to this page for more
information, but for an idea of what we do, check out the
pictures of our organization at our various events!
NIPSCO Field Trip, March 29, 2008
Location: Michigan City Power Generation Station
Company: NIPSCO (Northern Indiana Public Service Company)
Contact: Professor Kraft
On March 29, 2008, students from Valparaiso University had
the opportunity to visit the Michigan City Power Generation
Station. Organized by Professor Kraft, approximately 12 students
went up to see the site. The group was given a detailed information
session regarding the operation of the power plant. The group
was then given a complete tour of the plant. The station was
“off-line” at the time of the tour, so the group
got to see even more of the inner-workings of the plant. Some
of the things they got to see included: the boiler, the inside
of the turbine, the control room, and the step up transformer.
Overall, the students enjoyed this real world learning opportunity.
More to come!
